A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

What is Mr. Toadtastic?

Mr. Toadtastic is an adventure exploration game. Furthermore, you are a frog that awakens to discover your tophat went missing. To make things worse you are informed that the swamp has been taken over, which once was a beautiful spring in a valley. The game's purpose is to locate your lost tophat, uncover the mysteries of the swamp, and return it to its previous glory. However, you run into trials and tribulations while on your adventure.

This adventure puzzle game is inspired by the journey of a frog, throughout their habitats plagued by climate change and pollution. Set in a 16-bit game, you must solve puzzles and conquer a maze to learn the mystery of the land's past.

Hi Galloway School Studio!

This was overall a very enjoyable game and I had a lot of fun speedrunning it. However, there were a noticeable amount of bugs that should be addressed.

1. Instead of interacting with the old man at the beginning of the map, going to the right of the house sends you all the way towards the end. This deprives a lot of the experience you get when playing this game.

2. The bossfight can be beaten by just running away. You don't have to attack at all, but if you run away from the fight and then come back, he admits defeat.

3. There are a few issues with collisions with scenery and other backdrops. For example, it's quite easy to clip into a tree or run into other backgrounds.

I also do have a few suggestions in order to improve the gameplaying experience:

1. The battling system isn't very intuitive. Off the bat when entering battle, the battle system is introduced. This is the first and only battle that this game has, and things like "Attacks" or "Skills" aren't known to new players. Maybe adding a tutorial in an earlier part of the map or giving better opportunities to players to learn the system will improve their understanding.

2. The fly catching level was confusing, as I often wasn't sure how many flies I had caught. A counter on the side would be helpful, as well other challenges in this area like flies that give more points and flies that make you lose more points. I think these will help make that area more functionally interesting and keep the player more engaged.

3. Similarly to the fly-catching level, there weren't many features in the maze level that made it special. There weren't any traps or power-ups in this maze, and so the gameplay felt repetitive as I tried to navigate through the bushes. Adding things like these, or maybe other challenges such like shifting pathways would make that portion of the maze a lot more fun.

Despite these suggestions, this game had a lot of fun parts to it. There were many humorous moments, such as some of the NPCs asking why the player can talk as the frog. Additionally, this game had a lot of beautiful scenery and models, bringing an elegant mix of 2D and 3D together. The game felt very genuine and it felt like there was a lot of effort put into it. Great job!
